High-energy particles

Natural / Technogenic
β, γ, n radiation

Main emission lines: 511keV

Where detected

The earth's atmosphere shields us from solar wind particles, but if we go higher (e.g., flying in an airplane), this shielding will weaken and the spectrum will show a significant rise in the high-energy region. An annihilation peak at 511 keV may be observed. Also such a spectrum can indicate the presence of neutron radiation, in which case the instrument will record the energy of the recoil nuclei.
